Discover Lembongan / Guides / Getting around

Quick answer: By scooter if you're a confident rider, otherwise by electric buggy, local driver, bicycle or on foot. Roads are narrow and hilly, especially on Ceningan. There are no regular taxis.

Lembongan is small and the roads are narrow, so getting around is simple. The question is just how much freedom you want and how confident you are on two wheels.

Scooter

The most popular way to explore. Scooters can be rented from guesthouses and shops all over the island, usually by the day. They let you reach Devil's Tears, the west coast coves and Ceningan whenever you like.

But the roads are narrow, hilly in places, and can be sandy or broken, particularly on Ceningan. If you have never ridden a scooter, this is not the place to learn. Wear a helmet, check the brakes, and make sure your travel insurance covers you.

Electric buggies and local drivers

Electric golf buggies and local drivers with small open trucks are common, and a good choice for families or anyone not riding. Your accommodation can arrange a pickup from the beach when you arrive, and a driver for a few hours of sightseeing.

Bicycle

Fine for the flatter stretches along Jungutbatu and Mushroom Bay. The hills towards the south and on Ceningan are steep in the heat.

Walking

The beachfront at Jungutbatu, and the coves on the west coast, are easy to walk. Bring water and shade: the midday sun is strong.

Across to Penida

To get to Nusa Penida you need a boat across the channel. How to plan a Penida day trip.
